BUSINESS, ENGINEERING LINKS, RESOURCES & COMMENTS
Various Resources, LPFM and LPTV, Links that interest me.!
FCC Resources.
Technical Resources I need, use, or that amuse.
- Airport Lookup.
- Look up ZIP code by city name.
- Electrical Engineering - Lots of on line calculators, basic EE stuff.
- Unit Conversions - OnlineConversion.com, e.g. speed, volume, weight.
- Find geographic coordinates given an address. This nifty page looks up an address and gets a pretty darned accurate set of coordinates. Provided by Eagle Geocoding (www.geocode.com).
- Topo Maps, on line, including quads.
- RF Exposure HTML Calculator. Fast unverified assessment of your exposure.
- Hammett & Edison have on line FCC f50/x, Power Density, and other calculators.
- Besssel Function Method to Determine FM Deviation, a paper by Agilent Technologies.
- Slug tune your FM (VHF) antenna by Chris Scott.
- SWR calculator, by Kathrein Antenna.
- Link Budget Calculator.
- Convert dbm, dbmv, etc.
- XLS spreadsheet converts many unit to other units such as dBm to dbu and uV/m, and other RF calculations - made for LM users.
- Links to Lots of RF on line caculators such as imp. net designer, Yagi Calculator, and much much more.
- Green Bay Packet Radio Link List. Lots of interesting resources.
- Catalog of mapping resources on the net.
- Longley Rice info and source code, ITS.
- Doug Lung keeps a spread sheet of FCC CP and License data on his web site.
- Armstrong history by Mike Katzdorn.
- Business Side of DTV, or Things to Make You See Red.
- Early FCC FM docs. I especially like 1944--09--28--"Very-High-Frequency and Ultra-High-Frequency Signal Ranges as Limited by Noise and Co-channel Interference"
- FCC Rules and Regs.
- FCC Search Page.
- Some MSDOS binary programs, including matching, coils, other ham stuff.
- MPEG-2 Profiles and Levels.
- THE PHYSIOLOGY OF THE EAR (Sound & Video Contractor January 20, 1993) 655kB
- A suite of audio test software, utilities, calculator etc. by DaisyWeb Software, such as audio sweep, spectrum analyzer, etc. Very very nice.
- Useful International Broadcast Reference PDF file from ABE 9 455 kB).
- VHF and UHF Channel definitions
- Basic standards for TV transmission
- Minimum field strength to be protected
- Service area boundaries in rural districts
- co-channel interference
- Frequency Offset
- Directivity of receiving antennas
- Microwave exposure
- Coax and wavieguide
- TV Analog microwave links
- VSWR vs. Return Loss (dB)
- dBm, Watts, dBmv, Volts
- Cable size vs. maximum current
- Other useful calculations.
Local Utilities and Reference.
- Copper water pipe as coax (U.S. Size in Inches). An impedance chart as Lotus file and as a MS Excel format file.
- audio test wave files.
- Use obsolete FCC LPTV software on a VAX running VMS here. Also, feel free to look at the original FORTRAN souce via Telnet or FTP. To use FTP or Telnet you must log on as LPONE, password LPONE. Anonymous won't work. PLEASE NOTE: THIS MAY BE THE ONLY PLACE YOU CAN FIND FCC HEIGHT ABOVE AVERAGE TERRAIN (HAAT) VALUES FOR NO CHARGE ON THE INTERNET. THE DALE BICKEL FCC MMB/ASD HAAT PAGE HAS BEEN OFF LINE FOR ALMOST A YEAR (as of 2-22-02). The terrain data is 30 second Defense Mapping Agency as modified by the FCC for lower 48 states only. All FORTRAN code is on line, with extensive comments. Change directory via SD dua0:[LANSMAN.FCC]
- Some home made MSDOS software. FCC and related stuff, such as precise beam tilt calculation (from tech note 101, Longly Rice), TVFMFS, etc.
LPFM, KZND, Channel 6 TV and related.
- KZND is less than 2nd adjacent to KRUA. Here is our offer of proof of no interference. You were able to listen to KRUA from my home, however, that has been shut down, as I need the home computer for other stuff sometimes. Anyway, the issue is dead for now.
- Published LPFM Radio World commentary.
- "LPFM already exists", comments from Boston (e-mail April 3, 2000).
- Some of our comments to the FCC regarding LPFM, showing some existing contour overlap involving superpower grandfatherd stations and lack of interference complaints regarding same. MS Word 97 file.
- Intermod Interference Other stations have at times caused interference to KYES. Find docs regarding this subject. The FCC has done nothing.
- Our former channel 6 TV translator has been controversial. Here you can see some of the docs.
- Interference to US TV channel 6 from FM & NCE-FM broadcast. Study by Canadian Department of Communication, Ottawa, 1969
- DTV Channel 6 Interference to FM Band Reception. Study in behalf of NPR.
